JVC may have pioneered hard disk-based camcorders for consumers, but Sony is now competing at full strength, with an even more substantial range of alternatives for both standard and high definition. The DCR-SR72E sits in the middle of the five standard definition hard disk-based camcorders Sony currently has available in the UK. Despite being really […]

Panasonic PV-GS300 Review
January 11th, 2007 · Comments Off
The Panasonic PV-GS300 is a rather compact camcorder, even with blank cassette recording media. It fits nicely in your hand and has a primarily silver body made mostly of metal with exception to the plastic door covering the tape mechanism. The camcorder weighs 18.4 ounces with tape, battery and SD memory card in place. A […]

Panasonic HD Camcorder
December 7th, 2006 · Comments Off
Weighing in at only 430g, the HDC-SD1 will be hardly noticeable in your bag, while dimensions of 74 x 69 x 142mm mean that it won’t take up much space either. But it’s not just the size and weight that impressed me, the SD1 is also very comfortable to hold and use, while the light […]

Canon HV10 Review
December 7th, 2006 · Comments Off
The Canon HV10 has an upright design compared to the more common horizontal configuration of the Sony HC3. To be honest, I don’t like this style of camcorder, especially since the HV10 is too wide for my hand. I never did feel comfortable, even after adjusting the strap many times. I like camcorders that rest […]

The Sony DCR-SR80 is a new hard drive camcorder from Sony which though is a consumer product, it has all the functionality of a high quality Handycam akin to professional equipment. Since it’s a hard drive based camcorder, one doesn’t need to worry about storage material like tapes or discs. Thus Sony is offering true […]

Sony HDR HC3E HD Camcorder Review
June 25th, 2006 · Comments Off
Sony seems intent on dominating the High Definition camcorder market before any other company has even joined in. Although Canon has released a competitor to Sony’s top-of-the-range professional HVR-Z1 (the Canon XL-H1), there’s nothing at all to compete with Sony’s offerings below that in the UK. We thought Sony’s first attempt at consumer HD was […]
