With the large number of web applications for the iPhone, Apple lists more than 600, the Mobile Safari browser plays a large role. Recently a Denial of Service(DoS) vulnerability was discovered in iPhone’s web browser.

When Apple added iPod Touch/iPhone bookmark synchronization to iTunes they, for whatever reason, didn’t include Firefox as an option. As it stands right now you can synchronize your iPhone bookmarks with Safari (available on Windows and Mac) or Internet Explorer (available on Windows).

Sure there’s a 3G iPhone expected this year, but why wait? There are plenty of phones already available that have 3G and everything else the iPhone has: 8 GB of storage, a built-in music player, a touch screen (often accompanied by a qwerty keyboard), and even add-on features like visual voice mail.

While researching Fast Company’s December/January cover story I ran across a startling claim: some computer security professionals were boasting that they could turn an iPhone into a piece of spyware that can intercept a target’s voice mail and e-mail, hijack its Safari browser, and even surreptitiously record conversations, all without the owner’s knowledge.

“A rootkit takes on a whole new meaning when the attacker has access to the camera, microphone, contact list, and phone hardware,” renowned hacker HD Moore said regarding a security vulnerability in Apple’s iPhone. “Couple this with ‘always-on’ Internet access over EDGE and you have a perfect spying device,” he added.
