Can the iPod Survive?

The iPhone is a lot of things: A widescreen iPod, a smart phone and a mobile web browser. It also might be the death knell of the Apple iPod shuffle (Second Generation).jpgcurrent iPod. Is anyone going to want an iPod that weighs more, has a smaller screen and can’t do any of the cool communication stuff the iPhone can? It’s a fair question. The iPod nano has a bright future ahead — flash RAM is getting cheaper and more high density by the day, and it’s cachet as an exercise companion with Nike is huge. The shuffle has its niche for ultra portability and simplicity.
